Stained Glass for Beginners Course

Our ten week evening courses run on Monday evenings, between 6:30pm - 9:00pm.  We currently have a course running and are taking names for our waiting list for the next course due to start in April 2024.

Project one: Traditional stained glass window hanging

For your first project you will make a traditional stained glass window hanging, measuring 15cm x 15cm.

You will learn all the basic skills needed to make a stained glass window hanging such as:

 • Selecting suitable glass.

 • Soldering.

 • Scoring and breaking glass to fit a pattern.

 • Attaching support rings.

 • Grinding glass.

 • Cementing.

 • Lead cutting.

 • Finishing.

Project Two: Individual Project

Once you have completed your traditional lead window hanging, you can then move on to your own individual projects. We will work with you to select, plan and source materials for your individual piece, (please note that you will have to purchase the glass for your individual project).

The only constraint to you completing your project is time; it usually takes a student about ten hours to do the first project. This means that each student usually has about 15 hours in class to complete their individual project. We will help you plan out your project to ensure that it is finished in the time you have available.
